Wedding at Villa Valentina, Tradate

Tradate, province of Varese

In the evening the villa lights up

Once it gets dark the facade is the only lit thing left in the garden: the trees disappear, and that warm wall becomes the backdrop for the toast and the cake.

It is a low, yellow light, and it does not forgive a flash. I would rather work inside it and let the dark around it act as a frame, instead of wiping it out.

A wedding amid greenery between Milan and the lakes

Villa Valentina stands in Tradate, in the countryside south of Varese, and the civil ceremony can be held here under direct delegation from the municipality. It's a villa designed for every stage of a wedding: the garden with its centuries-old trees for the ceremony, the fireplace for cooler evenings, the indoor halls for those who prefer to stay sheltered.

Not far away, to the north, the hills leading toward Lake Varese already begin to open up: the light here is typical of the foothill plain, soft and even, well suited to an unhurried photographic story, without harsh shadows to complicate group portraits.

Even for such an eventful day — ceremony, drinks in the garden, reception indoors — my approach stays the same: I stay a step back, ready to catch what happens without interrupting it.
