Wedding venues on Lake Orta
Wedding at Leon d'Oro, Orta San Giulio
Orta San Giulio, on the square overlooking the lake
A ceremony with a view of the island
The Leon d'Oro's terrace looks straight out at Isola di San Giulio: a natural backdrop no stage design could match.
Here the ceremony weaves into the life of the square: passers-by pausing for a moment, the village bells, the lake always there in the background.
A wedding on Orta's oldest square
The Leon d'Oro has looked onto the main square of Orta San Giulio since 1815, run without interruption by the same family of hoteliers for over two centuries: it is the oldest hotel still open in the village. In May 1882 the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche also stayed there, in room 102, with its view of the lake.
The two terraces facing Isola di San Giulio and the private jetty with direct water access make this venue versatile across several moments of a wedding day: drinks with the island in the background, portraits on the jetty, the celebration carrying on into the evening as the square's lights come on over the water.
With such a central venue, part of my job is knowing how to wait: letting the comings and goings of the square open up at just the right moment, without forcing the scene.
