From the cloister to the terrace, in one afternoon
The water is a few steps from the rooms: you walk down, step onto a boat, and the village is already behind the couple, houses along the shore and the island ahead.
The climbing lanes and the square do the rest: the light changes at every corner, and I follow one step behind, without posing anyone.
A wedding in the former convent of Orta San Giulio, overlooking the lake
The Hotel San Rocco occupies a former convent complex directly overlooking Lake Orta, about five hundred metres from the historic centre. Its oldest core was the house of the priest Giovanni Gemelli, who in 1647 donated the building and surrounding land to found a college; under Napoleonic rule the building was closed and sold, later housing a girls' school established by Bishop Giacomo Felice Gentile.
Turned into a hotel in 1960 and extended with the neighbouring Villa Gippini, the San Rocco still keeps its cloister and the sober layout of its religious buildings, now opened onto gardens and the view of the lake. It's a setting that offers more than one photographic register in the same afternoon: the quiet of the covered arcades and the full light of the terrace over the water, ideal for a wedding at every stage.
During the ceremony and reception I stay a step back, letting spontaneous gestures — not poses — tell the story of the day.
