The veil in the wind during a kiss by the lake

Wedding at Tenuta La Quassa, Ispra

A centuries-old oak at the heart of the celebration

At Tenuta La Quassa the fixed point is a tree: the park's great centuries-old oak, beneath which dinner is laid. The halls look straight at it, their windows open onto the green.

The lake is a few steps away. At sunset the reeds and the water became the backdrop for the portraits, with the veil moving in the wind and the sun low behind the mountains.

A wedding at the early twentieth-century estate on the lake's Lombard shore

Tenuta La Quassa is an early twentieth-century property on Via Cadorna, in Ispra, on the Lombard shore of Lake Maggiore. It lies within the protected area of the Gulf of La Quassa, between Ispra and Ranco: a well-kept park, wide, bright halls and, a few steps away, the water and its reed beds.

It is close to Varese, Milan and the Swiss border, and days here divide neatly between indoors and outdoors: portraits on the shore as the sun goes down, the aperitif and dinner in the park, then the party indoors, under the brick vaults. A Lake Maggiore wedding seen from its quieter shore.

During the ceremony I stay to one side: that is how genuine glances happen, the ones that would never appear in a pose. Sunset portraits take just a few minutes by the lake, then I go back to telling the story of the dinner and the party.
